OpenAI and ServiceNow expand partnership across enterprise workflows
THE SHIFT
Where should an AI assistant meet the work: inside a business platform, or inside a conversation? OpenAI and ServiceNow are expanding their partnership in both directions. The announcement describes OpenAI models and agents coming into ServiceNow, alongside ServiceNow workflows coming into ChatGPT and Codex. Those are related changes, but they are not interchangeable descriptions.
THE PROOF
OpenAI’s official summary identifies the two companies and the intended connections between their products. The useful distinction is between bringing model capabilities into a workflow platform and making that platform’s workflows accessible through other interfaces. A team thinking about the announcement can start by identifying which direction would fit the task it wants to support.
THE CATCH
A partnership announcement establishes an intended direction. It is different from a statement that every feature is already available to every customer. That distinction matters when planning an actual deployment: a broad integration claim alone cannot tell a particular team which actions it can perform safely in its own environment or who should approve them.
YOUR MOVE
Choose one workflow your team already understands. Write down the information it uses, the decision it makes and the person responsible for the result. Then compare that task with the specific product documentation relevant to your organization. Keep the conversation interface separate from the permissions and approvals the underlying work still needs.
Moving the conversation closer to work is useful only when the right workflow and controls come with it.
Updated: Clarified the direction of the planned integrations and removed unsupported access and rollout claims.
